Day 16 - Orlando, FL to Clearwater, FL

We woke up extra early (6ish) to drive to Tampa.  Mom has to go home to Oklahoma and Tampa was much cheaper to fly out of than Orlando.  We dropped Mom off at the airport around 9am and met up with someone new.  Bye Mom!

Farewell Townplace Suites!
After 5 nights in the same place, we're switching back to our single night stay routine.  Our next "hotel" will be Grandma's house.

Erin and Grandma.
We wasted no time at all and began our Tampa Bay adventure with Grandma in tow.  Up first was lunch at a local British pub.  No pictures, but it was a meal of convenience since it was right next to our first activity.

Walking down the pier to the ferry.

Where might we be going?

Caladesi Island State Park!

We went for a two hour beach walk.

Boardwalk to the beach.

A friendly island turtle.

It's a nice island, although a bit pricey to get to.
After the island, we toured a number of areas.  I didn't realize how much of a beach party happened in Clearwater.  As a Texan, I was more familiar with South Padre and Mexican destinations.  I don't have any good pictures since I was driving, but the beaches were packed.

After that, we toured some of the neighborhoods to see houses.  Again, no pictures since I drove, but virtually every house near the coast had a dock.  All the artificial islands were designed to give every lot water access.  It looked like classic Florida.

Dinner was also on the beach at Caddy's on Treasure Island.

Some local grouper.
The usual vegetable/black bean burger.

Live music on the patio from a very strange band.

Banana split ice cream cake.

Sunset on the beach.

Caddy's.

The place Doug Flutie was hanging out at across from our car.
Not every day a former NFL quarterback just happens to be next to you with a crowd of people.

This was Erin's kind of day.  Even though we walked and ate on the beach instead of laid on it, she was very happy.
